Two Washington Township teens arrested for clown threats

- Washington Township police say they have arrested and charged a 13-year-old with cyber harassment in connection with clown threats targeting students posted online. A second 14-year-old has also been charged with a similar but separate investigation involving cyber harassment, authorities announced.

According to police,  they received several complaints throughout the past weekend of people posting online threats targeting  several victims. Police say they were copying similar incidents from across  the  country  reporting  that "clowns" would be looking to harm others. Investigators say the  threats became very specific and identified several victims by name, listing their address,  and other personal information.

Police say detectives conducted  an  interview of a female  juvenile  suspect  who  confessed  to  creating  the online threats  targeting Washington Township students. Based on the investigation and confession, the female was charged with one count of cyber harassment, which is a fourth degree crime, according to police.

Investigators say the female  juvenile  suspect  is  a  Washington  Township  Public  School  student  but  no  other  details  will  be  released due  to  her  age. The  female juvenile was released from police custody to  her  parents.

The Washinton Township Police Department continues to investigate.
