Police: Dog shot after attacking girl in North Philly

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police say a dog was killed and three dogs are secured after officers discharged their weapons to stop an attack on a girl.

"We all started screaming," said Yahaira Rosario. She's still shocked at what happened to her 4-year-old daughter Yaridia.

"The dogs ran from around the block and they knocked my daughter out of the chair," she said. The family was sitting in front of their home at 10th and Ontario when just before five Monday afternoon the mom says several dogs came down the block. She says two charged at her daughter and one bit her.

"She got a lump on the side and a scratch on her neck," said Rosario.

The girl's father told us off camera that he hit the dog with a chair and the dogs ran off. Philadelphia police say when they arrived and saw the dogs running up the block they fired several shots. One of the dogs died. Police say they were able to restrain the other three.

"They tried to jump at the cops and the cops shot them," said Rosario.

The family says the dogs belong to someone in the neighborhood. Police have not said if they determined who owns the dogs.
