Police: Customer throws cup of coffee on Wawa employee

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Police say it started with a minor argument at the counter and ended with a customer tossing a scalding hot cup of coffee at a Wawa employee inside this store on East Erie Avenue in Juniata Friday.

The incident was caught on camera.

The Wawa employee suffered some superficial burns, according to police, who explained how a conversation between the employee and customer escalated so quickly.

"As the cashier handed the offender his change, the offender got upset that he didn't receive a pack of cigarettes. There was a quick tirade and he threw a hot cup of coffee on the complainant," East Detectives Captain Nicholas Brown said.

The Wawa manager and his employee weren't available for a comment.
