Deceased baby dropped off at hospital, family says it isn't first baby parents have lost

After a deceased baby was dropped off at St. John's Hospital around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, family of the parents now facing charges say this isn't the first child they've lost.

The parents are in police custody and a warrant package has been sent to the Wayne County prosecutor's office.

Police say the baby is 11 months old.

Sources close to the investigation say the boy's parents may have been drinking the night before and the father may have rolled on top of the 11-month-old as they slept.

We were told the baby was dead on arrival at the hospital, and that the baby was given to hospital staff. Doctors say there were no visible signs of trauma to the child.

Authorities later determined the baby's dad dropped him off at the hospital and then left.

Alexis Exum says the baby is her cousin -- the child's father is her uncle.

"Aint nobody roll on that baby," she said. "I don't want to hear that. The baby didn't just up and die, i don't want to hear that. The baby went to the doctor yesterday morning."

Sources close to the investigation say the boy's parents may have been drinking the night before and the father may have rolled on top of the 11-month-old as they slept.

It may not have been the first time something like this happened.

"It's the second baby and they died five days apart," she said.

Exum says the couple lost another child recently -- a 6-month-old daughter.

"This happened last year," she said, confirming it was last year on September 20. "She died at six months. Now it's September 15 this year and my little cousin LJ is dead."

The medical examiner has not figured out how the 11-month-old boy died.

Police could not confirm if the couple that's now in their custody lost another child.

"Even if my uncle was wrong, I love him to death, but I want justice served," Exum said.
