Police: Fully loaded gun, ammo and drugs found inside local school

Drexel Hill, Pa. (WTXF) Police say a gun, ammo and drugs were found inside a local school. The school was placed on lockdown for more than two hours after police say one teen threatened to shoot someone. According to police, five students were arrested.

Bonner-Prendie High School on Lansdowne Avenue went into lockdown for just over two hours after school officials received reports that a student entered the building with a loaded gun.

Investigators acted on a tip from a female student. Police say they searched lockers and several students and they turned up drugs, ammunition and the fully loaded 9mm in a girl's locker.

Detectives say it all started with a suspected drug transaction involving three students at a trolley stop across the street. When a student allegedly threatened to shoot a female student in the foot, the students dispersed into the school, according to investigators. A tipster told the principal a gun had been brought into the high school, police say.

"The tipster, the witness, she did everything right. I mean she's a hero," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

K9s and police swept through school. Police say they found marijuana in two students' lockers. They were arrested. According to police, they then stopped a third student who allegedly had ammunition in his book bag and finally a fourth student with marijuana in packages.

"He's also charged with giving the gun to the young student who's a freshman. We find a fully loaded nine millimeter in her locker," aid Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

The female student who allegedly hid the gun in her locker was also arrested. Police say the gun was stolen from a student's brother who legally owned the weapon. The school does not have metal detectors. Four students were turned over to their parents. Police say the student who had the gun originally is being held tonight on weapons charges.
