Hamilton Township, NJ (WTXF) - What would you do if you saw a man and woman in a physical fight happening right in front of you? A Good Samaritan who was in that situation and stepped in to help. But his good intentions back-fired. He's now in the hospital with serious injuries.
It happened along busy Route 40 after a driver witnessed a man and a woman in a domestic dispute.
Mary Wickliff and her neighbors saw the incident unfolding across the road from their apartment. She watched in horror as the Good Samaritan stopped his car and tried to help.
"He nonchalantly walked over. I don't know if he said something to the gentleman, but he didn't move his hands," she said. "The guy hit him and he went down like a soldier."
Witnesses say the Good Samaritan smacked his head on the pavement and didn't move. Witnesses called 911.
According to police, they arrested the man identified as 24-year-old Calvin Wiggins of Sicklerville. Police say he is charged with aggravated assault and possession of marijuana.
