Police: Group of teens launching attacks on pedestrians

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police say a group of teens have been launching attacks on pedestrians for their cell phone. Now the mother of one of the victims wants answers.

The mother of 17-year-old Jhafi Sexton says he was beaten so badly he needed to be hospitalized.

“He got stomped all in his face, kicked all 3 of his teeth out in front. He was unconscious when I got to the hospital,"  his mother, Shantell Sexton, told FOX 29.

According to the mother, her son simply gotten off the 36 trolley on Tuesday at 65th and Elmood when he was jumped by a swarm of attackers.

"My son don't deserve this. My son has a disability problem and he did not deserve none of this," his mother explained.

Police say these attacks are part of a disturbing new trend of kids violently attacking solo victims for their phones. The laundromat on the corner of where Jhafi was allegedly attacked has pictures of another victim being kicked earlier this year. Just this week, police say a 16-year-old was beaten at 62 and Glenmore and his phone was taken and a 52-year-old man was also sent to the hospital.  Police think it may be the same group of kids.
