Police investigate reported Pennypark sex assault

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police say they are investigating a sex assault on the block of 2800 Rhawn Ave. in Pennypack Park.

People walking along Rhawn Avenue near Winchester are a little uneasy.

"This used to be a walk that you could do alone but in the past five years I haven't. You always have to go with somebody which is sad," said Megan Myer. She and Robin Ricci were out walk the dog near Pennypack Park when they heard what allegedly happened.

Police have a sketch of the man they say walked up behind the 22-year-old victim, covered her mouth then dragged her into the woods. Police say the suspect put duct tape over the victim's mouth, bound her wrists and ankles, then physically and sexually assaulted her.

"You wouldn't think in this area too because where the woods are there's a drop off so it's not like he could just hide behind a tree," said Ricci.

Another woman out walking didn't want to show her face but says she's concerned.

"It happened 11:30 at night? Oh wow. I know there are people who run around 9 or 10 o'clock but I would never do that," she said.

Police are urging women to be aware walking in the area.
