Police investigate two different late night robberies

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police are investigating two different robberies that happened around bar closing time outside city hot spots.

They're crimes of opportunity and with the warmer weather back so is that criminal element turning up again outside some city nighttime hot spots on the weekend.

Police say there's been at least two incidents this month. According to police, last Saturday morning at 2:25 a.m., just after bar closing time, two men were seen running away after police say they'd just robbed a man of his iPhone in the the 300 block of Camac Street. It happened near many popular restaurant destinations.

And a couple weeks earlier, just as the bars were closing on Friday, two men were approached by two others on Bank Street in Old City armed with a gun, according to police. Investigators say one of the victims was beaten in the head with the weapon, his wallet stolen, along with 200 dollars and a cell phone.

Two locations where neighbors tell FOX 29 they've always felt pretty safe.

The second robbery location is between an always busy Market and Chestnut street. However, one turn onto Bank, and it gets empty, very quickly.

"You have to use your common sense and not go into dark places," said Kristin Cooke.

Common sense, like walking in groups, focusing not on your phone but who is in front of and behind you.
