Police investigate shooting at Mayfair rec center playground

While kids were inside a rec center in Mayfair, someone shot a man right outside the front door. Now, police are on the hunt for the suspect.

Neighbors went running to their windows as gunfire rang out at the Lower Mayfair Rec Center playground just before 6 p.m. Monday night. When the gunfire ended, a 21-year-old man had been shot in the back.

"There was obviously some kind of dispute inside the playground, a fight ensued and shots were fired," Northeast Detectives Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum said.

The scene was captured on surveillance video as several people can be seen running from the shooting scene and jumping in cars.

"We had several cars that fled the scene. We're asking if anybody saw anything. It's a busy intersection-- call 9-1-1 or our tipline," Lt. Rosenbaum.

The shooting took place right outside the rec center front door--inside were over a dozen of children involved in an after school program.

There are no surveillance cameras on the rec center. Police are reviewing video from nearby stores as they try to identify the suspects. Two .40 caliber shell casings were recovered at the scene. No one inside the building was injured .
