Police investigate after woman's body found in trash can in East Mount Airy

Police are investigating the disturbing discovery of a woman's body found stuffed in a trash can, wrapped in a blanket, inside of a garbage bag.

"All of a sudden, I see this trash can next to my house," said an unidentified neighbor.

It's what stood out to the neighbor on the 1800 block of East Cliveden in East Mount Airy, but it's what a neighbor found inside the trash can Saturday morning that has shaken the whole neighborhood.

A woman's body, in a trash bag, covered with a blanket.

"Shocking. That's all I can say. It's shocking," said the neighbor.

Sources say a man was walking his dog and went to the trash can to dump dog waste when he saw a leg sticking out and called police. Cops arrived about 9 a.m.

"We've never seen anything like this inside of our neighborhood," the neighbor explained.

"It's terrifying to know I'm going to leave my baby here and she's due any day," said Sandra Ramos.

Ramos says she traveled from Massachusetts to be with her pregnant granddaughter who just moved to the neighborhood, only to be startled by news of the gruesome find.

"I'm in total shock. I just got out of the car and I was dying to smoke a cigarette and now I'm dying to bring my granddaughter back," Ramos stated.

While police investigate, neighbors have a growing list of questions they want answered.

"She's somebody's child. She's somebody's mother, somebody's sister, somebody's aunt," added the neighbor.
