Philadelphia school teacher dies in Roxborough house fire

A Philadelphia school teacher has died and several others were hospitalized after a Sunday morning fire.

Flames broke out on the 600 block of Renz Street just before 8 a.m.

Beloved 3rd grade teacher 62-year-old Shelia Hawkins died in the fire after being trapped inside. Parents and students were heartbroken by the news at Shawmont Elementary School.

"It's terrible. It's sad for everybody; the kids, the school, the family-- everybody," dad Patrick King said.

Grief counselors were on hand Monday at the school.

The three residents who made it out of the home safely are in stable condition.

The Red Cross is assisting the victims as the fire remains under investigation.
