Police: Kids accused of car vandalism

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) A destructive spree of vandalism in one neighborhood was all caught on camera. Nearly a dozen cars hit - thousands of dollars in damage. The accused vandals? Police say a couple of young children. According to police, there’s not much they can do about it.

On 6100 block of Alma Street, car owners are steaming after police say a pair of young vandals carrying a rock or some other sharp object scratched their way down approximately 10 cars parked on the street.

"You're talking over 10, 11 cars. You're talking well over five or ten thousand dollars. Do we get it back or is this something we have to eat?," said victim Garrett Sample

Todd Long Sr. bought his new gold Ford 150 pickup in October, so he was not too happy to find a huge scratch running  down the side of it when he came out to his truck Sunday afternoon.

Long's truck was part of a one hour alleged vandalism spree caught on surveillance cameras. The cameras are owned by Garrett Sample.

Neighbors dialed 9-1-1. Police quickly surmised that the two kids allegedly scratching all the cars were just 9 and 7 years old.

Because of their age, police say they can't prosecute the alleged vandals. The car owners must either pay for repairs themselves, go through their insurance companies, or go after the kids parents in court.

"At the end of the day, they can't pay for it so who will?  I guess the mom and the father are gonna have to be responsible for this,'" Sample said.
