DA: Man arrested after pulling gun on trooper in Bensalem; Second driver sought

Bensalem, Pa. (WTXF) - A man suspected of pulling a gun on a Pennsylvania State police trooper after a traffic stop in Bensalem has been apprehended while a second person involved in the incident is being sought, according to the Bucks County DA.

It happened around 2 p.m. Friday.

Investigators say the trooper had just assisted Bensalem Township police officers with an unrelated arrest when he stopped a suspicious vehicle near the Wawa store in the 3600 block of Street Road.

As the trooper questioned a man who had been a passenger in the vehicle and attempted to pat him down for weapons, the man fled on foot. The DA says the trooper pursued him, drawing his taser in an effort to subdue him.

The suspect then turned and displayed a dark-colored handgun, prompting the trooper to discard the taser and reach for his own firearm, according to authorities. The suspect continued to flee, clearing a fence and disappearing.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle the trooper had stopped drove away.

Police established a perimeter in the Nottingham neighborhood and called in reinforcements, including K-9 teams, to conduct a search.

The suspect was located in a back yard by a K-9 team and was taken into custody shortly before 3 p.m. The gun he is accused of possessing was recovered, and charges are pending.

The driver of the vehicle is still being sought. The vehicle was described as a dark gray Dodge Charger with a red or maroon trunk and a temporary Florida license tag T207777 on the rear of the car.
