The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Jabril Ab'dur-rahman, also known as "Yung Mazi."

The shooting happened on Hosea L Williams Drive, which is across the street and one door down from the Atlanta Police Department's Zone 6 Precinct. Officers at the police station said they heard the gunfire and responded to the scene around 8:55 p.m. Police ran out and tried to save the victim, who died at the scene.

Atlanta Police said that they believe the victim was coming out of a pizza restaurant in the area and may have been targeted.

The Rapper's friends told FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor they were born into street life and expected their friend to be murdered some day.

"I don't feel it. I feel the hurt for my buddy, but it ain't nothing I am going to be shocked by...I see it every day, all day. Shot, killed, stabbed in their face. You got to think about how my heart is. (Bleep)It makes me cold," fellow rapper TrayK Williams replied.

Police said the 31-year-old man sustained several gunshot wounds that resulted in his death. He was outside of his vehicle when he was shot, according to police.

There are no suspects in custody.

Detectives don't believe there was an altercation. Investigators said it appears the shooter walked up and opened fire. Police said the gunman then took off running west on Hosea Williams Drive.

A crowd, including family members of the victim, gathered at the scene.

Sunday's shooting happened less than eight months after Yung Mazi survived being shot at a Waffle House in Buckhead.
