Police: Deputy burned with Molotov cocktail

Collingdale, Pa.(WTXF) - SkyFOX flew above the unit block of MacDade Boulevard just after 4 p.m. Wednesday when deputies with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office went to serve an arrest warrant to a man for a violation of probation. They didn't expect what happened next.

"While the officers were standing there he threw what was believed to be a Molotov cocktail at the front officer," Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said.

The injured deputy was rushed to the Crozier Hospital Burn Unit. The deputy sustained second degree burns to his legs, feet and torso. The injured Sgt. Deputy Sheriff has been released from the hospital and is at home recovering from his injuries.

As the man barricaded himself inside the home sparking a tense hour-long standoff with SWAT team negotiators. He eventually gave himself up and was taken into custody.

When investigators got inside they found seven more jars believed to be Molotov cocktails at the ready.

A handful of homes were evacuated and MacDade Boulevard was shutdown for hours before the bomb squad brought out more evidence and gave the all clear.

Police made sure the suspect, Jeromy Jones, was arrested with the handcuffs of a Delaware County Sheriff's deputy.

According to authorities, Jeromy Jones is charged with attempted first degree murder and assault on a law enforcement officer and other related charges. Following arraignment, he was remanded to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility after failing to post $1 million cash bail.
