Police Release Sketch of Child Found Dead on Deer Island

Deer Island, MA--Police say a child's body was found in a bag on Deer Island last week, and Massachusetts police are calling for help identifying her.

"We're here to appeal to the public for information to identify the young toddler who was found about a week ago," said Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley.

During a Thursday press conference, they released a composite by a forensic artist. It shows the girl of about 4 years with brown hair and eyes. Conley said, "Likely three and a half feet tall and about thirty pounds in weight." They cannot be sure, but she appears to be white or Hispanic.

A woman walking her dog last week found the girl's body in an industrial waste plastic bag, according to police. Her body was then taken by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where they performed an autopsy that remains inconclusive. "The results are pending [on] toxicology, so it's premature for us to say at this point whether or not any charges will be issued in this case."

The police cannot rule out natural causes, but the way her remains were discovered suggests an unnatural death, so they are going forward with an investigation.

Investigators continue to review reports of missing children and are also contacting police across the country.
