Charges: Man accused of Camden sexual assault

Authorities say the man accused of a sexual assault in Camden is in police custody.

According to police, the CCPD signed warrants for the arrest of Andre D. Wesley, 29, of Willingboro Friday night.

On Saturday morning, Camden County Police released information that officers were able to search Wesley's home following his public arrest warrant.

Police say that while officers were in the house, Wesley came home and held a knife towards officers, struggling against them until he was safely placed under arrest. Neither Wesley nor any officers were injured.

"The depravity and disregard for human life demonstrated by this violent repeat offender made him extremely dangerous," said Chief J. Scott Thompson.

According to CCPD, Wesley has been charged with criminal attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery, three counts of aggravated sexual assault, three counts of aggravated sexual assault by physical coercion, three counts of aggravated assault With a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was remanded to the Camden County Jail with bail set at $2 million cash.

The initial incident happened when officers responded to the 900 block of South 3rd Street around 6:30 p.m. last Sunday where they found a female sexual assault victim.

Investigators say the victim was approached by an unknown man driving a white van. The suspect then forced her to go with him to a nearby lot where he sexually assaulted her, according to police. Afterwards, the suspect fled the scene.

The victim was transported to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.
