Police search for missing Uber driver

Police are searching for a missing Uber driver from Abington Township.

A series of short text messages early Tuesday morning is the last communication Kathleen Kelly had with her 45-year-old daughter Krysten Laib.

On Monday night, Krysten left the home they share around 8 p.m. to drive for Uber. Just after 4 a.m., when Kathleen realized her daughter hadn't returned, she messaged Krysten, 'Are you on your way home?' ' No,' she responds, saying she was still ubering in Philly. Mom says, 'I'll see you later,' and Kristen types, 'Yeah, ok.'

Kristen had been working as an Uber driver since Thanksgiving. Her mom says she always felt safe because Uber tracks passenger information.

"They know who's with you because of the credit cards. They know who all the people are who are in your car," she explained.

Police used Uber records to identify Kristen's last passenger drop off after 4 a.m. in Northeast Philadelphia.

"We had basically realized that the person who her last fare was. We ruled out as any involvement in this issue. So as far as we know, Uber is not involved," said Abington Police Sgt. Thomas Scott.

Police say there's no indication that any of her bank cards had been use, and they're asking for help, looking for her 2003 dark green 4-door Subaru Legacy, license plate: HJA-8582.

So what happened after that last scheduled fare? Her mom has no idea.

"I don't want to think about not ever seeing her again. I'm hoping that she didn't suffer. That nobody made her suffer. I don't want to cry.

Laib is described as a white female, 5'4", 135 pounds, blue eyes and blonde hair.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Krysten Laib is asked to contact the Abington Township Police Department at (267)536-1100, and press option #3.
