Police search for Queen Village robbery suspect

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) South Detective Division is looking to identify and locate the suspect wanted for a robbery in Queen Village.

For a 24-year-old woman, who was simply walking down the 700 block of South 4th Street in Queen Village,  it was a morning she's not likely to forget any time soon.

"He put his hand over my eyes, and a hand on my back, on my bag," she told FOX 29. 

We agreed to conceal the victim's identity as she described the 6:45 a.m. robbery. Surveillance cameras were rolling as the suspect approached her from behind.

"He wanted my things. I started screaming. He tried to get me to calm down. Then he threatened to shoot me," she explained. 

The victim says the suspect continued to struggle with her then took her bag and ran away, According to investigators,  this was a crime of opportunity. The suspect took the young woman's MacBook pro laptop, her wallet, $10 in cash, credit cards and her ID, then fled.

The victim escaped without any serious injuries, the threatened gunpoint robbery had the Queen Village neighborhood on edge. Police say there haven't been any other robberies like this in the area in recent weeks. They want the public to check out the picture of the suspect, pulled from surveillance video.

"We put the video out there, hoping somebody will recognize him and perhaps give us a tip before it leads to a pattern and before this guy strikes again," said  Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford.
