Police search for teen accused of firing gun in Upper Darby park

Upper Darby, Pa. (WTXF) Police say a teen fired a gun at a crowded playground in Upper Darby.

"The neighborhood has turned into a war zone back here," said Kevin Brady who lives near Drexel Gardens Park on Bond Avenue in Upper Darby.

"This is constant. Friday nights, Saturday nights and after school. This is the place to fight. There's nowhere for the cops to get back here fast enough," he said.

That's exactly what happened 3:30 Monday afternoon. Police say two Upper Darby High School students met up at the park to fight drawing a crowd of about 30 young people to watch.

"Before the fight even starts, he fires the gun and everybody takes off," said Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

He says 18-year-old Dominic Love is the person who fired a gun in the air causing even more chaos. Police say he doesn't attend Upper Darby High but is a friend of one of the kids who planned to fight. Chitwood says they identified Love with the help of witnesses and young people who were there. Investigators also tracked clues through the social media app Snapchat.

"They all seem to be focusing on Snapchat. Snapchat lights up and his name comes up right away," said Chitwood.

No one was hurt but Brady says he's concerned. There are lots of children in the area and an elementary school just up the block which he says let out around the time of the incident.

"It's escalating. It used to be fist fights. Now kids are carrying guns," said Brady.

Police say Love's last known address is in Drexel Hill and that he's considered armed and dangerous.

"He wants to be gangster we're going to treat him like a gangster. We're going to lock him up, we're going to take him down and we're going to put him in handcuffs," said Chitwood.

Police say the suspect is aware they're looking for him. There is a warrant for his arrest. If you know where he is, call Upper Darby Police.
