Reading, Pa. (WTXF) - Police say they are searching for a person of interest in connection with a 16-year-old's death. Tonight, a community is in shock and is in mourning.
"He always had a smile on his face. Always having people joking."
Family members remembered 16-year-old Christian Torres who died on the sidewalk on the 1100 block of Locust Street. It's still unclear how Torres died. But police think Torres was stabbed to death after some sort of fight Sunday night that may have started over the victim wearing a scary Halloween mask.
Investigators are now looking for 29-year-old Avery Valentin-Bair police describe as a person of interest in the case.
The popular 10th grader at Reading High School already had a job at McDonald's and was getting his drivers license.
Now his family is preparing for his funeral.
"Last person I'd think it would ever happen to is one of the greatest kids on this block. Never bothered anybody.. never," said cousin John Torres.
Initially, there were reports from authorities that the killer had on scary mask from the movie "The Purge" but that has since been clarified.
The family of Christian Torres is planning his funeral for this weekend.
