Police: Teen struck, killed by freight train

A teen was hit by a CSX freight train and pronounced dead on the scene. It happened along the tracks at Mascher and Tabor in Olney just after 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say the boy, who they believe is in his early teens, suffered head injuries after he was hit by the train. The train was going its normal speed at about 35 to 40 mph, according to investigators.

They believe the boy was hit by something on the side of the train. According to police, next to his body was a Little Caesars Pizza box from the Adams and Rising Sun location. Police say the conductor tells them another teen was with the victim when he was hit. Police want to talk to that teen.

"From the train operator, two teenagers were running across the tracks. One of them got struck by the train. The teen who didn't get hit by the train continued to flee on foot and we don't have him at this time," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The victim was wearing tan khaki pants and a burgundy pullover shirt like a school uniform but police say it did not have any school markings on it.

Authorities are looking at missing persons reports from the area to see if the victim matches the description of any of them. He has not yet been identified.
