Police: Video Shows Philly Officer Pressuring Driver for Donation

A Philadelphia patrolman who appears on videotape apparently pressuring a driver to support a police fundraiser or have his car towed has been placed on paid leave.

The video shows 9-year veteran Philadelphia Police Officer Matthew Zagursky, apparently not realizing he's being recorded, telling a driver who was pulled over either buy three tickets to an upcoming police fundraiser or get your car towed.

"Either you buy these, or I take your car, cause it's unregistered," Zagursky says in the video.o.

The video also shows the driver agreeing to give the officer $30 for three tickets to a police union fundraiser. The officer is heard making a homophobic remark while discussing pink windshield wipers on the unregistered car.

The tickets he was selling were for the Hero Thrill Show in October, which is an event that raises scholarship money for the families of local fallen police and firefighters.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says Zagursky is now off the streets with an investigation underway, including locating that driver.

"I don't want to prejudge anything. But I'm not real happy right now. Obviously, but once we get the completed investigation, I'll make a decision about what the appropriate action is,' said Commissioner Ramsey.
