Power back, Rutgers classes resuming on Cook/Douglass campuses

- Power has been restored on the Rutgers University Cook and Douglass campuses after major inconveniences for thousands of people.

Classes are resuming Thursday after Wednesday's series of power outages canceled dozens of classes and left about 90 buildings on its main campus in New Brunswick in the dark.

The outages on the Cook/Douglass campuses affected about 90 buildings, including 39 residence halls. As many as 3,000 students had to sleep on cots in a gym.

For a time, Rutgers Facebook page reported "all student centers, health centers, recreational centers and dining halls are closed until futher notice.”

That’s now over.

Workers say there was a problem with a transformer.

All other Rutgers' campuses were open and operated on normal schedules.
