Pregnant woman killed in suspicious morning house fire

- A North Philadelphia home went up in flames, early Sunday, killing a 35-year-old woman who was pregnant.

Police say the fire broke out just after 7:30am in a home in the 2100 block of W. Susquehanna Avenue.

The victim was found inside a second floor bedroom. She was five months pregnant.

Now, the fire marshal says the cause of the fire is suspicious and under investigation.

The fire was one of two deadly fires crews battled on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Fire Department released the following statement Sunday afternoon:

"Despite the incredible efforts of our firefighters and paramedics, three people died this morning after a house fire on the 5400 block of Diamond Street and one person died at a fire scene on the 2100 block of W. Susquehanna Avenue.

While we don't yet know the causes of these deaths, the tragedies are an important reminder to take a few minutes to check your smoke alarms and review your home fire escape plans. If you need a smoke alarm, please call 311.

Members of the Fire Department plan to install smoke alarms and distribute fire prevention material tomorrow. Details to come.

Both fires remain under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office."
