Rowan University holds forum after police encounter

Rowan University held a forum Friday for students after outcry from a recent police encounter that went viral.

Glassboro police with guns drawn pulled over two students Monday night on campus.Video of the incident quickly spread on social media.

It was a tense and emotional student forum at Rowan University. Students and faculty opening up about how they felt upon seeing the now viral video showing Glassboro police officers pulling over two classmates Monday-- guns drawn. Authorities say the student's black Dodge Charger matched the description given for the vehicle of an armed man they had gotten reports of a few blocks from campus. In the end, no weapon was found. Police say they followed protocol.

Senior Altaif Hassan was the student in that video. He says he is still living the moment over and over in his head. At the forum, his classmates described their own experiences with local police and demanding change within the department.

Student leaders and the university says they have been in touch with Chief Frank Brown but that he declined their invitation to the forum.

Instead, in an impromptu press conference just after the campus meeting Hassan says he'll rely on news coverage to convey his call for action to law enforcement..

"I have four cameras on me right now so I know they're going to hear this. That message--everything was directed towards them," he said.
