Police: Security guard shoots suspect in attempted Family Dollar robbery

Philadelphia police are investigating after a security guard shot an attempted robbery suspect at the Family Dollar on the 3100 block of Frankford Avenue in Kensington.

It happened around 10 p.m. Monday.

According to police, a suspect armed with a knife attempted to rob the store and took the cash register drawer. Police say a security guard came from the back of the store and told the suspect to put down the drawer and knife. The suspect refused and was shot in the leg by the guard, according to investigators.

The suspect fled the store with the cash register drawer and knife. Police say they ordered the suspect to drop the knife and drawer but the suspect refused and was tasered by officers.

The incident remains under investigation.
