Serena Williams beats Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 to win Wimbledon final for her 22nd major title

LONDON (AP) — Serena Williams has won her 22nd major tennis title.

The American beat Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon final to tie Steffi Graf's record for the most major championships in the Open era.

It's the seventh Wimbledon title for the top-seeded American, and her first Grand Slam victory in a year.

After winning Wimbledon last year, she lost in the U.S. Open semifinals and in the final of the Australian and French Opens.

Kerber, who beat Williams in the Australian Open final, was playing for her second major title.
