Two vehicle crash injures seven in Wilmington, Del.

Wilmington, Del. (WTXF) Delaware State Police investigated a two vehicle crash which injured seven people in New Castle.

The crash occurred at shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

State police say a 16-year-old was operating a 2005 Ford Escape and was traveling in a southbound direction in the left hand lane of DE Rt. 141 (Basin Road) in the area of US Rt. 13, New Castle. For an unknown reason, the Escape struck the center median of the roadway and then entered into the northbound lanes of Rt. 141, where it struck the front of a 2001 Toyota Tundra, according to investigators.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Escape, as well as five other teenage passengers in his vehicle, were all treated at the scene and transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital with various non-life threatening injuries. One of the injured, a 17-year-old female, was trapped in the Escape for approximately 45 minutes until she could be extricated by emergency responders, according to police.

State police say the driver of the Ford Escape was charged by Troopers with Failure to Remain in a Lane of Travel, No Proof of Motor Vehicle Insurance, Expired Registration, and Driving without a Valid Operator's License.

The northbound lanes of Basin Road were closed for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
