Snow cleanup underway in Allentown after day-long snowfall

Snow cleanup is in full effect outside the Flores household in Allentown, Pa. 18-year-old Natachaly Flores says she finished early out back and insists she put in the most work.

"Yes, It's a whole hill," she said. But clearly her mom is the one working overtime.

"I cleaned the back but I don't clean the front usually because she cleans everybody's porch," she said of her mom. Snow began to fall early this morning here but really picked up by late morning.

School was closed but the weather turned what was supposed to be a fun-family day into a stay home day.

"We had plans to go to the movies but we didn't go because the traffic is really dangerous," said Natachaly. She's right. On our way driving to Allentown traffic was backed up on 476 North. We even passed a tractor trailer stalled on the side of the road. A trucker we met at the rest stop said his drive from Delaware was treacherous too.

"Rain to snow. That's all it is. Rain to snow. Rain is way better because snow is slippery," said Todd Perfitt. Of course these snow and ice removal contractors are cool with the weather.

"We've been salting here all day and now we're plowing," said Scott Hedden. They're putting in a full day keeping the rest stop and service area clear for truckers and drivers gassing up and resting up.

"Just with what this is we'll probably be here 8 hours," said Nicholas Hankee.

Most people we came across today were getting a jump start on clearing snow outside their homes and businesses in anticipation of plunging temperatures and icy conditions.

"The last time we waited until the next day it got really bad and it sticks to the ground. You don't want someone to fall in front of your house and then have them press charges that's not good," said Natachaly.
