Police ID driver in South Philly hit and run

Police say they know who hit a pedestrian and left the scene in South Philadelphia, overnight.

They say a witness told them the victim was crossing the street at Front and Oregon at about 3:40am when a car traveling eastbound on Oregon hit him and took off.

Then, that witness grabbed a friend and followed the car. They managed to stop the driver and took pictures of him, his license plate and damage to his vehicle.

Police say they even told him to go back to the scene of the accident.

He did, and reportedly asked the 31-year-old victim if he wanted a ride home.

By then, an ambulance arrived and the driver took off again.

Police say the car is a burgundy 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe and the driver was a 61-year-old man.

The victim is in the hospital, in stable condition.
