Stephen Paddock: What we know about Las Vegas shooting suspect

- The gunman suspected of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history was a 64-year-old Nevada resident and officials said his hotel room was stacked with weapons when he unleashed the terror.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Stephen Paddock was found dead on the 32nd floor of the facility, across the street from the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert. Police said Paddock used the vantage point from his room to shoot and kill at least 58 and injured 515 people outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Among the dead is a Las Vegas Metro Police officer who was off-duty. He is not being identified. Two on-duty officers were injured, one is in stable condition and the other has non-life threatening injuries.

Paddock is believed to have checked in as a hotel guest before the attack, which left at least 50 people dead and more than 400 injured.

"We've located numerous firearms within the room that he occupied," Lombardo told the media. "We have no idea what his belief system was. Right now, we believe he was the sole aggressor and the scene is static."

Responding officers blew the door open and then entered the room. Once inside, police said they found him dead inside the room.

Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News that Paddock "was known to local authorities," in Las Vegas. But police in Mesquite, where Paddock lived, said he never had any run-ins with officers, the Desert Valley Times reported.

Authorities also said a woman they were searching for in connection, who they identified as a roommate, was not believed to have been involved. Authorities said he was using some of her ID. Officials previously described her as a person of interest and said the two lived together.
