A tornado watch was issued for parts of our area yesterday through to the evening.

Showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon resulted in property damage for local residents.

New Castle County in Delaware is one of the areas that was hit the hardest.

The Office of Emergency Management says that the National Weather Service is on its way to New Castle to survey the damage caused by a funnel cloud that ripped through the area at 8 p.m. Thursday night.

Many residents of the area have been displaced from their homes. About 3500 people are without power.

Witnesses say the storm lasted for about two minutes in a one-mile stretch.
