Student highlights sexual assault awareness, protests Brock Turner

Yana Mazurkevich created a photo series called "It Happened" to highlight sexual assault awareness.

She did it after last week's release from jail of Brock Turner, a Stanford student convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman.

In the series, victims of both genders stare intensely into the camera as they're subjected to various forms of sexual assault.

Mazurkevich also said she wanted "to raise a huge finger to Turner and his three-month jail time."

This photo series was made in association with sexual assault awareness group Current Solutions.

Mazurkevich made headlines in June with another photo series inspired by Turner. In the series, woman held up signs with common phrases that survivors of sexual assault often hear.
