Suburban officer stabbed outside South Philadelphia hotel

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Philadelphia police say a man has been taken into custody in the stabbing of an off-duty, suburban police officer in a hotel parking lot.

Police say the Tinicum Township, Delaware County officer was dropping off the man at a South Philadelphia hotel as a "courtesy transport" on Saturday night when the man stabbed the officer in the arm.

The officer, who wasn't immediately identified, was taken to a hospital for treatment, where police say he's listed in stable condition.

The man fled but was caught a short time later. Investigators are looking into what preceded the stabbing.
