Teen arrested after bringing loaded gun to Society Hill school

- A 13-year-old has been arrested after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school in Society Hill.

The incident took place at George A. McCall School on the 300 block of South 7th Street.

The school was placed on lockdown following the incident.

Lee Whack, a spokesman with the School District of Philadelphia, released the following statement:

“It is completely unacceptable any time a student brings a weapon to school. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. On Wednesday the principal at General George A. McCall Elementary School was informed that a student was likely in possession of a loaded gun. She took immediate action. The Philadelphia Police Department was called and the school was placed on lockdown immediately. The gun was removed from the school without incident. The lockdown was lifted after it was determined that there was no further threat and all students and staff were safe. The School District is fully cooperating with the Philadelphia Police Department as they investigate this matter.”
