Vigil Held for Teen Shot, Killed in Strawberry Mansion

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police are investigating a shooting that left a teen dead in Strawberry Mansion. On Monday, the community came together to mourn the loss of a life taken too soon.

16-year-old Saleem West was riding his bike with another teen on the 2200 block of Sedgley Avenue. Investigators say he got into a confrontation with four men in a car. When Saleem and his friend tried to ride away, the car reappeared; two men with guns got out, chased them and fired 17 shots, according to police. 16-year-old Saleem was killed in the shooting. The question is why?

They came by the hundreds to Marston and Susquehanna Monday night to remember 16- year-old Saleem West. His murder has hit his family, his friends and his community hard.

Speakers at the jam packed street corner vigil demanded justice. They urged everyone to reflect on the senseless murder and the violence that has hit this neighborhood.

“He’s in heaven now and this broke my heart. this broke my heart,” said one person at the vigil.
