Schuylkill Expwy. back open but big delays into Center City

The Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) eastbound into Center City is back open after being closed for an hour, but there are still major traffic backups and you'll want to leave a lot of extra time to drive in.

The eastbound lanes were closed at Girard Avenue, near the zoo, and some drivers even dangerously turned back up onto the on ramp.

Unfortunately, alternates such as Kelly Drive and MLK Drive are detoured for President Obama's visit.

The backup still goes way back for several miles, past City Avenue to King of Prussia.

You may want to try taking the Blue Route (I-476) to I-95, but it won't be easy.

The trouble started with a crash involving two tractor trailers. Unfortunately, there was also a vehicle wedged between one of those tractor trailers and the concrete guardrail. Philadelphia firefighters and other emergency crews were on the scene for the rescue effort.
