Upland police arrest man after he reportedly shoots himself

Police in Upland arrest a man after he shot himself during a brief foot chase.

Investigators say the Upland Borough Police were conducting a traffic stop of a car with an expired inspection. When officers approached the vehicle, they say they smelled marijuana from inside the car.

The officers asked the occupants to get out of the vehicle. Police say that is when the driver, 20-year-old Keon Williams of Chester, took off on foot. Police pursued Williams.

Williams was said to have pulled a semi-automatic gun from his waistband and the gun went off, striking Williams in the lower body. Police took Williams into custody, at that point.

Authorities say the gun was reported stolen and Williams was in possession of narcotics as well as $2,300 at the time of his arrest.

Williams was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The female passenger took off in the vehicle. Police found the vehicle, but were still seeking the woman.
