New England kidnapping, sex suspect caught in Delaware County

Police departments in Delaware County joined forces to catch a fugitive on the run.

It wasn't easy, but they got their man. The FBI put out an alert Saturday calling him dangerous.

"He's a dirtball. He's a scumbag, a bum. Whatever you wanna call him," said Mike Chitwood, Superintendent of Upper Darby Police.

The fugitive from Vermont, Everett Simpson, is under arrest, after a wild series of multi-jurisdictional police pursuits from Prospect Park to Upper Darby, Drexel Hill and Springfield in Delaware County.

"The officer from Prospect Park attempts to stop the vehicle and he takes off," said Chitwood.

After police say the car Simpson was driving was flagged in a tag reader as stolen by a man wanted for rape and sexual assault in Vermont, Simpson was sought for allegedly abducting a woman and her child from a mall parking lot in New Hampshire.

"What's he doing here?" asked FOX 29's Joyce Evans.

"I don't know, he ain't talking," replied Chitwood.

A woman alerted police, spotting Simpson after he allegedly ditched the Vermont car when he crashed in Upper Darby and ran.

"He runs through the sewer outlets next to the Primos Swim Club. We then searched that area with the dogs. We sent a K-9 down there, we don't find the guy," Chitwood explained.

A woman at Bishop Hill Apartments did. He allegedly stole her car as she was unloading groceries.

"She left her phone in the car," said Chitwood

Chitwood says that phone led to another pursuit and says Simpson crashed that car on Leamy Avenue in Springfield Township.

"He starts fighting with police. He's a big guy, he's 6'3", 255 pounds. And, he's a very, very dangerous individual. We strapped his legs and handcuffed him to the gurney. He's currently at Crozer-Chester Hospital," Chitwood added.
