(VIDEO): Woman killed after falling through escalator landing, saves 2-year-old son

JINGZHOU, CHINA -- A Chinese woman lost her life after she was trapped in an escalator in a shopping mall, but she was able to get her 2-year-old son out of harm's way.

The horrific accident happed on Sunday in the city of Jingzhou.

It was all caught on surveillance camera footage and has gone viral in China.

Media reports have identified the mother as 30-year-old Xiang Liujuan.

The video shows Liujuan moving up the escalator and once she reaches the landing at the top, it suddenly collapses. She then becomes stuck in the machinery of the escalator, which is still moving.

In the footage, it's clear that Xiang manages to get her son to safety in the arms of store workers at the top of the escalator.

The workers try to pull the woman out, but she fell into the machinery and was killed.

According to People's Daily's online edition, Liujuan's body was found four hours later after the escalator was disassembled by crews.
