WATCH: Collin County K-9 receives touching tribute

MCKINNEY, Texas - A Collin County K-9 received a touching tribute after an inoperable medical condition required him to be euthanized.

A few months ago, K-9 Deputy Rocky began experiencing health problems that prevented him from fully performing his duties, according to Collin County Sheriff Terry Box. Since then, Rocky was under the care of a doctor at a McKinney veterinary hospital.

Doctors later discovered Rocky had an inoperable medical condition which required euthanasia.

With a large group of sheriff's deputies, friends and the Collin County Honor Guard by his side, Rocky was led in to the veterinary hospital on June 16 to be euthanized.

"Rocky was a loyal and dedicated servant to his K-9 handler Deputy Robert Merritt and to all the citizens of Collin County," the sheriff's office said.

Rocky served with the Collin County Sheriff's Office for more than 3 years. He began in January 2013.
