What's that smell in Somerton?

There is a mystery baffling the residents of Somerton. They're smelling an odor around town, and no one can figure out what it is. FOX 29 may have an answer.

It started a few days ago and Facebook blew up when someone asked: Why does the entire far northeast Huntington Valley smell like molasses or maybe a sweet spicy smell?

One post said the smell was pancakes and maple syrup. Hundreds of others chimed in. Many thought the sweet odor was coming from the demolition of the old Nabisco plant that used to make the neighborhood smell like a Oreo cookie, but workers told FOX 29 that's impossible.

Could it be the jelly factory?

It turns out police think that may be the answer to the mysterious smell. The Zentis Factory on Tomlinson Road produces jams, jellies and syrups.

Over the last couple days they've been cooking industrial size vats of fruit and other sweet sauces, which most likely is the reason why Somerton smells more like Candy Land these days.
