Woman found burned beyond recognition in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Police say a woman's body was found burned beyond recognition in West Philadelphia early Friday morning.

According to officials, the body was found between two parked cars on the 4400 block of Ludlow Street. The body was still burning when police and fire crews arrived on scene.

Fire officials were able to put out the fire and the woman was pronounced dead shortly before 2:00 a.m.

Police say a plastic container filled with accelerant was found in a dumpster near the body. A liter was also recovered next to the victim.

According to authorities the victim's body was transported to a medical examiners office in an effort to identify the woman.

Police have not identified a suspect and continue to investigate.
