Workers accused of physically abusing children

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) -- Two Long Island day care center workers are accused of physically abusing infants and toddlers in their care. Southampton Town police say they arrested Kathleen Culver and Sarah Dawber on Friday afternoon and charged them with endangering the welfare of a child. The two women worked at the Side By Side Day Care Center in Southampton where they were responsible for children from four months to 18 months old.

Police say they allegedly force-fed, pushed and slammed the children down on the floor.

The women were issued appearance tickets and it was not known if they are represented by attorneys.

New York State Office of Children & Family Services is continuing the investigation.
