Big welcome for local Olympian Nia Ali overnight

- The Rio Olympics are over and athletes are heading home.

FOX 29 News was on hand as Philadelphia’s own track and field athlete Nia Ali got a triumphant welcome at Philadelphia International Airport at about 2am.

Family and friends were there to greet her and her 15-month old son, Titus.

Even after her long flight, Ali took time to sign autographs and take selfies with fans at the airport.

Ali earned silver in the 100-meter hurdles, while teammate Brianna Rollins got gold and Kristi Castlin took bronze. That gave the U.S. its first sweep in the event.

Ali grew up in Germantown and attended West Catholic High School.

She credits her friends and family as inspiration.
