CINCINNATI, Ohio (WTXF/AP) - It was almost everything the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t want it to be.
The birds (5-7) lost on the road to the Cincinnati Bengals, 32-14, likely ending any playoff hopes.
Seems the only thing that went their way was winning the toss and electing to receive.
The Bengals (4-7-1) got on the board first and were there by themselves for a while, shutting out the Eagles for most of the game.
In the first quarter, Cincinnati scored a 32-yard Mike Nugent field goal, making the score 3-0 with 10:22 to go. Then, a Jeremy Hill rushing touchdown gave the Bengals a 10-0 lead with 1:32 to go.
In the second quarter, Caleb Sturgis' 51-yard field goal was off the upright -- no good – so the Bengals took over at their 41-yard line. Moments later, Nugent connected from 32 yards out. Bengals led 13-0 with 6:23 to go in the first half.
At halftime, the Bengals were shutting out the Eagles, 19-0.
The Eagles finally got on the board with just 2:30 to go in the third when Carson Wentz found Zach Ertz in the corner of the end zone for the touchdown. Score at the end of the third: 29-7.
In the fourth quarter, the game briefly became a two-score situation when Darren Sproles scored a touchdown, and the Eagles trailed 29-14 with 6:53 to go.
But things came crashing down when Vontaze Burfict picked off Wentz for his second interception of the day and returned 47 yards.
The Bengals scored a field goal.
Final: Bengals 32, Eagles, 14.
