Eagles' Zach Ertz, Rep. Brady help Kensington football team after vandalism

A week before Kensington High School's football team started training camp, a majority of its equipment was stolen or vandalized.

In the weeks that followed, the Philadelphia community has rallied around the team.

The Kensington Tigers set an initial fundraising goal of $5,000 to replace its equipment, but received a boost in its efforts from some familiar faces — including a member of the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles tight end Zach Ertz donated $10,000 through the Zach Ertz Family Foundation after Ertz' mother, Lisa, heard about the team's plight. When she passed word along to Zach and his wife, Julie, they both wanted to help however they could, according to the foundation.

"It's an honor to help ensure that Kensington High School's football program is saved," Zach said. "What started out as an awful blow to their team has resulted in an opportunity to show this community what we are able to do together."

U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, who represents Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District, also donated $8,000 to the team.

As of Tuesday, the team's donations have climbed to almost $35,000.

The Tigers are set to play Strawberry Mansion on Aug. 18.

Anyone interested in donating to the team's fundraising efforts can do so here.
