Eagles acquire running back Jay Ajayi for draft pick

The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired running back Jay Ajayi from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a draft pick, the team announced Tuesday.

The Eagles traded a fourth-round pick to acquire the 3rd year running back out of Boise State.

The trade comes just before the NFL's trade deadline, as the Eagles looked to strengthen their running game and blocking.

In 2016, Ajayi earned a Pro Bowl berth after finishing fourth in the NFL with 1,272 rushing yards, marking the third-highest single-season total in Dolphins' history. Over the course of the season, Ajayi registered three 200-yard rushing games, becoming just the fourth player in NFL history to accomplish the feat.

So far this season Ajayi has 465 yards on 138 attempts. Ajayi joins a crowded backfield currently manned by LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood, Corey Clement and Kenjon Barner. The Eagles lost running back Darren Sproles to injury earlier this year.
